My View On “Après le Déluge, What?”
As many commenters have stated, Peggy's focus on love is unsatisfachow to break up with someone you lovery, because love without conditions or limits creates spoiled brats, not good citizens. Not only that, it's a bit misplaced.
From what I have read about British society in recent years, it's the Queen's law-abiding, tax-paying subjects who could do with a bit of love. About 10 years ago, a farmer shot an intruder who broke into his house. The farmer was jailed. I felt terrible when I read about Read More...
My View On “Review & Outlook: Palin’s Food Fight”
Very well, brave WSJ reader. The chances are one in three that you yourself and your spouse are obese and smoke and drink hard and even-money that your percentage of obese americansfspring are obese as well. So please, leave instructions that when you go into your diabetic coma or have that crippling stroke or a gunshot wound that the ambulance takes you to Texas because Gov. Rick Perry prefers that you do not have health insurance because the state emergency system will care for you. We know that Read More...
Opinion On “Low Rates Yet to Spur Refinancings”
Richard,
I'm exactly the person you are talking about.
I ignored love letters for him and calls, due to cc debt, a recent new car loan, underwater status on my house, my perception was no bank would (should) touch me.
Last month I called my bank about making electronic payments, and after answering my question, I was offered the refi sales pitch.
For some reason this time I said sure why not, transfer me to that department, figuring with my significant financial issues this call would promptly end, Read More...
Opinion On “Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior”
Ms.Chua's book will be very successful, at least in terms of sales figures, as someone pointed out.
How fortunate for her that she lives in a country where it's okay to have more than one child abandonment, and even acceptable that the child is female.
Some of her points are welI taken, such as pushing a child to achieve to demonstrate that you believe in her. And I agree that mastery comes from hard work, and that the mastery is what will give a child confidence. I wonder, though, how Ms. Chua would Read More...
Thoughts On “Merchants Push Sales Through Social Media”
Bad Social Media Marketing 101: promoting one's business, blog, or website by pretending to be one of your own customers on various other blogs and discussion forums. You can spot such phoniness a mile away.
Having a Facebook or other merchant site is one thing, but it's ridiculous how to get people to read your blog so many people use blogs and discussion forums as though they were free advertising space. Bad Social Media Marketing 101b: Going onto a blog or other discussion forum and asking Read More...
My Take On “Obama Reassures India”
Criticism from the American left-wing has far more to do with their own power than their ideology. If Bush or another Republican did it, they'd probably find a reason to oppose it. If Dear Leader Obama does it, it's all good leader, even if they previously opposed it. I'm not too familiar with the history of any U. S. military assistance to India, or of American politicians' position on it, but if does appear to have changed, this is probably a good bet of why.
I'm also wondering (trying to give Read More...
Analysis On “Ayelet Waldman on Amy Chua’s ‘Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother’”
Life is not only about achievement, particularly achievement when you're young. Learning the value of work and dedication is important, but there are many ways to be happy to learn that lesson and some people don't learn it until they are older. There are plenty of examples of late bloomers, and you don't have to be an overachiever to be a happy and well-adjusted person. Parents should learn to appreciate their children as people first and foremost. Life is confusing enough for young people without Read More...
Views On “How to Get a Real Education at College”
A wonderful collection of mini-essays. I have no doubt you are successful in finance. When I was starting a new business out people would marvel that I was growing in spite of obvious errors (admitted to) having been made. They asked how I stayed in business. Well, we all learn from our mistakes, though it's better and less painful to learn from others'. The initial goal, I would tell them, was not to fall below 51% profitable moves. With time and experience I hoped to reach 100% (of course, a fantasy). Read More...

My Analysis On “Richard Simmons on Career Stamina”
I was a member of Richard Simmons Anatomy Asylum, a chain of health clubs that he owned about 25 years ago. The clubs had two workout plans for women rooms---one for those who had to lose over 50 lbs and the other for the rest of the members. Not a machine in sight---Richard taught that the best machine is oneself. The sound system in each room was magnificent---the aerobics instructors wore red and black workout clothes and worked out on a raised platform/stage so that the club members could see Read More...
